On Thursday Deenie, Karel, and I took a train ride to Prague so that Deenie could properly see the city and get some, ( a lot of), shopping in. Trains in the Czech Republic are very reasonably priced and have very good schedules. They are a much more common mode of transport than in North America.

The Nardoni Fountain - a popular place for Punks to wash their hair

From the museum we starting walking down Prague's main boulevard - Vaclavski Namesti. It's got all the international stores and restaurants, and is a great spot for people watching.

Beer (pivo) could be had at any number of street vendors, (although I don't think this particular brand was to Karel's liking.....)

Then we struck out on some side streets, making our way to a lunch that was planned with Karel's mother and sisters, by the train station, so they could meet Deenie.
We had a great lunch and it was good to see them all again.
Every one enjoyed meeting Deenie.

As we progressed through the city, Karel ran into an old aqaintance of his, Jan Kerbr, from Pribyslav. He's a theatre critic, and apparently has to review over 200 plays a year!
Why don't you ever see any women holding up the buildings?
We stopped for another lunch at Restaurace U Zlateho Iva.
The Courthouse
.
As we were passing the courthouse, a couple of the officers came out. Deenie happily introduced herself, explaining that she does the same job in Toronto. They loved it! She quickly got a brief tour of their post at the metal detector inside the doors.
Then we kept making our way towards the Old Town Square.
Old Town Square
Just as we got to the Square, Deenie spotted a jewellry store that looked promising. With Karel's help she bought some nice pieces for her sister.
Old Town City Hall with the Astronomical Clock
Deenie got thirsty, So Karel and I had to pump up some water for her from the conveniently located well. Of course she was lucky enough to catch my best side when she took the picture....
The fruit and vegetable market
One last chance to get some souvenirs
After a last bit of shopping, we made our way to the train station for the trip back to Podebrady. Liba and Vasek were preparing a big dinner in honour of Deenie's last day in the Czech Republic.
