Trip to Poland and the city of Wroclaw

By 2PM we reached the Czech-Polish border, and after showing our passports were waved through to Poland.

For me, being of Polish heritage, this was an amazing trip, as it was my first time visiting the 'old country'. It was great of Adriana and Karel to organize this visit. The drive to Wroclaw was good as we got to see a lot of villages and people along the way.

About half way to our destination, Adriana pulled over so that we could stretch our legs and have a bit to eat.

Soon enough we made it to Wroclaw. Adriana found a parking spot near the old market square, Rynek, and we got out to explore the city. The first place we passed was Teatr Lalek, as seen below.

The Flower Market

As we were walking around the square Deenie realized that during our entire visit to Wroclaw, she had not seen any other people of colour. Luckily at that moment I spotted some above the Perfumeria Marionnaud and quickly pointed them out to her.

She took it in stride and had a good laugh..........

Deenie tried to strike up a conversation with 2 guys pushing beer kegs. They were so astonished, they almost dropped them.

After checking out the square Karel spotted a small cafe where we could get a pint, and Adriana spotted a shoe store where she could check for bargains. Deenie went in with her while we sat and each had a liter of Żywiec - a very nice lager.

After our break, we left the market and explored the different islands that surround it.

Poor Deenie - as if to prove that African Canadians were a rare sight, when a tram full of people stopped at an intersection near us, all the passengers stared unashamedly at her. Of course Deenie loved it and treated them to a demonstration of all the poses she learned from her modelling days.......

On our walk back to the car, Deenie stopped and bought me a transit pass from a street vendor as a souvenir of our visit.

All too soon it was time to head back to the Czech Republic. Adriana had a long drive and it was getting late in the afternoon.
What a country - the bus drivers can smoke while their working!

After going through the border back into the Czech Republic, Adriana wanted to take a quick detour to show us the area where she went to summercamp as a schoolgirl. It is very mountainous with stunning scenery and we just had time to take a quick hike before the sun set. We had our supper at a local pub/roadhouse, which was excellent and then it was on to Podebrady.
